No doubt about it: Red Deer, Alberta is a beautiful place! We are so lucky to be surrounded by so much nature and a variety of beautiful landscapes all just a drive away from our city. But sometimes it’s hard not to take the planet for granted when we lead such busy lives. This spring, take some time to step away from your daily routine and appreciate the beauty of nature. To make it easy, come check out the Waskasoo Environmental Education Society right here in Red Deer.

Here are 3 of their upcoming events to check out:
Talk & Book signing with Mors Kochanski | May 13
This one’s coming up fast, but as long as you register for the event before May 11th, you’re good to go! You’ll get to see renowned Canadian wilderness survival instructor Mors Kochanski speak about the Northern Forest, wilderness skills, and survival. He has written extensively on the subject and will be presenting on his classic 1987 book “Bushcraft” here in Red Deer on May 13th. Tickets are only $10 + tax, but space is limited, so call 403-346-2010 to register!
Book and Bake Sale | May 27
If you love reading, sweet treats, and the environment… boy, do we have an event for you! Go check out the Book at Bake Sale at the Kerry Wood Nature Centre from 10 am to 4 pm on May 27th. Eat some tasty goodies and pick out some new summer reads, all while supporting the Waskasoo Environmental Education Society! Admission is free, and we guarantee this will be a lovely way to spend a day meeting locals and helping out the local community and its environmental efforts.
Terry Grant, The Real Mantracker | June 17
The art of tracking is not commonly used these days… at least not without a computer! And yet tracking is an important skill that has kept humans alive since the beginning of our existence. Put down that smartphone GPS app… in this workshop with top tracker Terry Grant, you’ll get a chance to “resurrect your primal abilities”. A 3-hour morning workshop will take place for adults ($100/ticket) and a 3-hour afternoon workshop will take place for youth ($75/ticket). There is very limited space and a ticket is required. Call 403-346-2010 to register.
Motel 6 Red Deer is just 15 minutes away from Kerry Wood Nature Centre and Gaetz Lake Sancutary. And if you just can’t get enough of our great outdoors, we are also ideally located close to the gorgeous Great Chief Park and Heritage Ranch.
